World Ocean Day, internationally observed on June 8th, is a United Nations recognized day dedicated to raising awareness on the ocean’s vital role in our lives, mobilizing unified global action for marine conservation, biodiversity preservation, and sustainable solutions. As a coastal nation deeply connected to the sea, Timor-Leste embraces its opportunity to collectively showcase the nation’s commitment to ocean stewardship. In October 2025, the Council of Ministers of Timor-Leste approved Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao’s proposal to establish National Sea Day, celebrated anually on June 5th. We invite you all to join Timor-Leste in celebrating World Ocean Day and National Sea Day for this entire month of June!
